Next Steps...Hiring a Contractor

What to do next:
Once you have your budget outlined, the next step is to obtain written
estimate(s). You will want to not only compare prices but also the level
of professionalism, experience and quality of the contractors' work. When
meeting with a contractor, take some time to talk with them. It is
important to take the time to get a feel for your comfort level with
them. Is this someone you will be comfortable working with and inviting
into your home? Be sure to pay attention to things like timeliness and
knowledge in discussing your project. A contractor who shows up late to
your appointment is likely to show up late when working on your project.
A contractor who is knowledgeable will offer input and insight
regarding your project needs. Be sure to find out if there is a charge
for the initial consultation. An important part of the
process of hiring a home improvement contractor is confirming that they
have the proper license and insurance. Working with a contractor who
isn’t licensed or doesn’t have the proper insurance just may come back
to haunt you. The next step is to request references
of the contractor you are considering. When talking to prior clients,
you will want to ask specific questions about their experience with the
contractor. Find out whether or not they showed up on time, cleaned
their work area and acted professionally on the job, for example. Most
importantly, how would the client describe their finished home
improvement project? The final step is to hire your
contractor. Be sure prior to signing a contract that you discuss with
them a timeline for the completion of the project to help ensure that
you are in agreement on it. Contact A.G. Building and Remodeling today for your free home
improvement estimate. We take the time necessary to evaluate our
client's needs and discuss workable design alternatives with them. |
Your home improvement project: 1st Steps to Getting Started

Things to do before meeting with a home improvement contractor: STEP 1: Identify your home improvement needs. Don't worry if ALL of the specifics are not in place...just narrow down your remodeling goals and you can count on us to work with you on designing, planning and coordinating all of the details. Homeowner Questions: Which areas of your home are you happy with? Which areas would you like to improve? Is your goal to create or expand your living space? If so, will an addition to your existing home do the trick or will it be more feasible to work within your existing floor plan? Are you looking for a sleek update to a bathroom or kitchen? What type of look best suits your tastes and your lifestyle? What are your expectations regarding the timing of your project? Be sure to include vacations, holidays, family events in your planning and be prepared to make your contractor aware of any factors which may impact the work schedule. We work with our clients to best facilitate project completion within their time frame and budget guidelines. STEP 2: Determine a budget for your project. Setting your home remodeling budget before getting started will allow your contractor to work with you to meet all of your project expectations. It is also necessary and helpful to identify your spending limits before getting into the product selection stage. This will help you to stay focused when you are met with a wide variety of options, guarding against overspending. Stay tuned for tips on hiring a contractor.... |
